Nice try, scientists. Thanks again for the biweekly electrocution. So sweet of you.
But hey Discedo! Guess what's going to be celebrating it's one year anniversary this Wednesday!?
That's right, some of you might be able to remember way way back when we opened up the Cafeteria on a quiet little Tuesday last October. (Haha, and I think this has been the longest I've ever kept a job!)
I think it's worth coming out to have a special dinner or something for, right? An extra stone soup night? A little get together?
It sounds like we could all use the morale boost...even if it's just a little meal.

Soup's on as usual. And thank goodness it feels just a little bit safer around here...hopefully things will be back to normal (well...normal for Discedo?) for a little while.
I can't believe it's almost been a year since we started using the cafeteria. You'd think time drags, but then you turn around and realize life's gone by very fast.
...I find myself thinking lately about all the people who have come and gone that I've hardly ever had the chance to actually meet. It's a little bit like tourist seasons, but I know the second I admit that, I'm admitting that I actually think of this place like home.

I should be grateful for them, and happy for them, and...and...
THIS REALLY ISN'T FAIR! I DON'T KNOW WHAT RULES YOU BREAK OR WHA T YOU'RE PLAYING AT, BUT THIS IS THE CRUELLEST WAY YOU COULD E VER GET OUR HOPES UP!

Aloha, Discedo...so I've been thinking. Everyone's doing what they can to pitch in, right? I guess this is sort of a Nani-Tries-Her-Hand-At-Motivational-Spee ch-Here, so please bear with me!
Are we trying to make the best of things here or what? I'm sure there's lots of people who are just sitting around waiting to go home or...just sitting around, right? So lets plan some things for the public good, or...at least see what we can get started as a community.
It's been awhile since we've done a proper census or anything, but maybe it's time for a little survey to see what kind of talents we really do have here, and who's willing to lend help to future projects, maybe who would partner well together on making things happen! Here's mine, for example.
Name: Nani Pelekai
Residence: Horton
How long have you been in Discedo?: 1 year, 7 months
Skills, talents, interests, experience: Child Supervision, Swimming, Cafeteria Management, CPR
Abilities (the ones suppressed by chip): None. Chip currently Out.
Current City Affliations? : Cafeteria/Soup Chicken
Something(s) Discedo needs that you would like to take an active role in: Organizing community projects & welcoming newcomers

Last call for soup?
Just thinned out the batch, so we can take a few more people. Just lentils and some salted stock broth tonight, but at least it's something warm...we're running a bit late. The cold....slows me down something awful.

Stupid communicator's trying to kill me again, so...
So I guess it's overdue time to give you scientists the reaction you want, right? No...no, I'm not going to yell about it. I thought I would, but...then I didn't want to be a mess in front of everyone over....family things. So I put this thing down and did a little more thinking, and a little more crying, and spent a little more extra time between just Lilo and me this week, and I'm not going to say anything ticked off. Prince Stubborn's probably right, I don't want to look so ungrateful that you rip me and my sister apart.
...And after all. Marlene had to go home to her Papa sometime. And I hope she's by his side right now.
But I really miss her. She was a sweet little girl and she's been here ever since I've been here...and the apartment's just me and Lilo now, Mona and Merle've been gone for months. I guess it's just hard, saying goodbye to someone who felt like a second little sister.
But Barrett....if you ever come back here and I'm not around to tell you this in person:
Your daughter is a gem and a sweetheart, and its been an absolute pleasure to look after her for the past year. You've raised her so willing to share and always helpful, always kind, and I'll really miss her 'smile!' reminder notes.

[Lilo is behind the communicator once more, holding it in one hand while she lovingly whallops her sister's backside with the other. The rest of Nani is burrowed under double comforters, head shoved under the second pillow]
Get up! Nani, Get up! C'mon, you've gotta look, it's sno-
Hele pêlâ! Go play with Marlene.
[And finally a lazy hand emerges and said head covering beats back in retaliation. The pillowfight progresses for several more seconds before the communicator's tugged back and Nani lifts her head to look towards the window with a low groan]
Oh please, no more of this crazy....mmmnnph!
[She flops dramatically back into her bedding, scowling at the communicator as she fumbles to shut it off.]
What. I'm an island wahine. I hate the cold.

I'm so sick of the air like this, and really worried. This can't be good for the kids.
I've been hacking up ashes nonstop...
Sorata, can I leave the kitchens to you tomorrow? My lungs need a serious break.

So...I've been over to the cafeteria, finally, to take a look at how it held up since last week. It's not so bad, a few of the mugs we'd been using for soup nights shattered, so...bring another one with you if you come by next Sunday. We'll be trying to get things back in working order for a lunch tomorrow with what we've got, but...can anyone working on them tell me when the generators will be back up and running in the high school?
It looks like the meat that was in the freezers is no good now. I know it's not the most pleasant help to ask for...but can anyone give me a hand cleaning them out?

Sorry! Sorry everyone...here! Here! We're alright and accounted for.
We've been down here in the basement at Horton taking shelter, the kids and I, and I just realized now we've been listening and listening and...sort of shellshocked...and forgot to let anyone know we were- I hope no one's been looking and worrying.
But we're okay...oh gosh...all of you over there at Latimir...please just pull through. I hope-
Is...there anything I can do, or should we just stay out of the way till the worst has stopped?
Has anyone seen what shape the cafeteria's in?

You know when people take a concept and run with it?
....yeah. I should have never idly mentioned to my little sister that Discedo's like some freaky reality series.
It's all I've been hearing about now.
For four days straight.

[The video feed starts and its someone else holding up the communicator to capture Nani wiping foam from her arms and trying her hair back under a clean kerchief. Judging by the upwards tilted angle and unsteady hand, its probably her little sister behind the camera. The tiled walls and stainless steel are telling that this is Mariner High School's kitchen.]
First off, whoever rigged up that fire extinguisher to go off by the door, you know who you are...very Hollywood, but that's an important safety device and you shouldn't be toying around with it for pranks!
[But her cross expression falters after a moment into a weary, trying cheer. She musters a determined breath and continues.]
Even though this city's got awful timing with it's...bad things (And Thank You, to all of you hard at work...trying to solve it and deal with the effects of it, and keep the rest of us safe) can I wish us all a Happy Father's Day and Midsummer's Eve, Discedo?
Tonight we're doing things a little bit differently down at the High School Cafeteria...we'll still have escorts and people watching the doors, so lets keep fingers crossed that it will keep being a safe gathering place. But we're not doing the Stone Soup...you can bring things along anyway, we'll hold them over for the week lunches.
But in honor of local fathers like...Mr. Mason, and Mr. Hughes, Sifu Iroh, Jackie, Gremio in a way, I guess....am I missing anyone? In honor of them, we're doing some small skits and sing-along entertainments, and a special menu! Fried chocobo Chicken (Probably more like Tempura than American style, since I put Sorata in charge of that), Corn, Campfire beans...and thanks to our lovely garden girl Yorda, and working freezers, we might even scrape together some watermelon shaved ice for dessert!
[A hopeful smile, which she holds expectantly till the pause grows slightly uncomfortable, and she motions at her 'camera assistant' to turn the recording off. While the view drops downward and Lilo fumbles for the buttons, Nani can be heard sighing and mumbling faintly to herself.]
I really stink at this morale boosting this sometimes.

Gremio, you're amazing, and thanks for taking such good care of the cafeteria today. Stew was delicious.
Also...thank you to everyone who's been such a big help walking us back and forth between the high school and Horton lately. With all of this- With all the trouble that's been going on, I really appreciate all the people keeping my Ohana safe. It's really terrible and tough, and I'm sorry for what's been happening to people, but I hope we'll find a way through this soon.
On another sort of stupid, Nani-moans-about-less-critical-things note: You know what's a real shame, sometimes? When I think about how if we ever get to go back home, I'll never be able to put any of this stuff on a job resume. I mean, people would never take me seriously and think me crazy no matter how much I try to convince people "9 mths, Fallout City Soup Kitchen Organizer" is legit experience. I mean if it counted, I could get a realy good fancy hotel catering job! Which would be way better pay than a small grocery cashier...
But I guess in the middle of everything, to be worrying about back-home plans is...not so important for the moment.

Sunday soup's on, doors are open, but before we settle down to our humble Ohana Community meal, lets be clear:
No matter how frustrated and angry we feel about our situations here, there will be absolutely no horseplay, violence or foodfights tolerated. You'll be escorted from the Cafeteria, and we don't have any take out bags, so that will be that.
Please...come and eat, come and share and try to be peaceful and kind to one another? Maybe with that Aloha Spirit, we can turn around all of this...creepy behavior that's been going on.

[The communicator turns on after being startled off the coffeetable by an out-flung arm, knocked sideways so that Nani is visible getting up in a panic from a nap on the couch. She darts out of view and returns wearily a minute later, flopping back across the couch heavily with a deep sigh of relief, burying her face in her hands, rubbing the heels of her palms against her eyes with a low moan]
Oh Discedo...Discedo...
[She turns her head to stare listlessly across the coffeetable, eyes locking with the communicator for a few long seconds before she finally notices the recording light running]
Oh...
[She'rolls her eyes and reaches to turn it off.]
Mmh. Well...better that you turned yourself on instead of just shocking me after not using you in awhi--AHIIIIIE!
[Grumbles after the recoil, Nani shakes her hand to relieve the sharp numb of static, reaching for a sock to glove over her hand before attempt number two.]
Spoke too soon.
[And she cautiously thumbs the recording button off.]

I'm sorry we...never quite made it to that slumber party, ladies. And that I wasn't around at the cafeteria today.
Things got- I don't even know. I haven't really felt up to it, or even much like getting out of bed. I'm not sick, I just...didn't feel up to it. Its so weird how in a week, so much changes.
But Mona really wouldn't have wanted me to stay down like this, or Merle, so...so I'm going to open for lunch tomorrow, even though its a Friday, just to get out of the apartment and actually do something.
I know, I know, its the same old 'don't let this place get you down', 'you might see them again someday', everything people always say. Things I say. I'm not really looking for condolences or anything, or help, the kids have been alright. I just...wanted to let everyone know I'm still okay, its just taking awhile.
And in the meantime, Discedo goes on as usual.
I feel so moody, and I apologize ahead of time if I snap at anyone. Maybe its only hormones. Yeah thats right, Prince Stubborn. A woman-thing.

Okay, everyone! I'm sick of getting kicked in the shins and getting shirts thrown back at me.
So since Lilo is 'sick' today, too sick for school, with a 'possibly deadly plague, really', and in no condition to be crankily beating up her older sister....no playdates, no visits, no exercise practice, and no coming over to the high school to help with the cafeteria. For the whole weekend, so she'll be bright and healthy again and ready to go back to Miss Susans by Monday.
And she's going to stay in bed and get lots of rest, so....If anyone sees her talking on the communicator, you tell me, and tell her to get back to bed and stop making up lousy excuses.

Ah- Aloha, new visitors! Welcome to Discedo!
Its a funny Deja Vu, but I almost feel like we've been through big waves of people like this before...
Oh well. Here's to hoping there's enough food to go around at the cafeteria today.
